About Andy Housego

Award winning artist Andy Housego was born in Portsmouth, England in 1968 living in that area until 2007. In June of that year, after taking early retirement from countryside management, he moved to a farmhouse in Lower Normandy with his wife and two young sons where in his studio he paints today.

He is a self-taught artist who is inspired by the countryside of Normandy with its varied landscape and culture. His knowledge and love of wildlife is often reflected in his bold and detailed work. He now paints almost exclusively in acrylic and uses a wide colour palette using both oil and watercolour techniques to achieve his desired effect. In recent years he has been inspired to create more fantasy works, which have gained much acclaim.

He has won awards in many exhibitions both in England and France. He is several times 1st Prize winner at the Portsmouth and Hampshire Art Society summer exhibition and twice medal winner at the Peintures du Bocage Exhibiion held each November in Flers, France. In 2016 he won the Prix de la Ville de Flers medal.
